The 3D Europa project explores the interplay between scale, detail, and the impossible.
Commissioned by the European Union, this project served as the flagship event in Lisbon for an initiative focused on new technologies that took place in 2016: 3D Europa.
The project’s unique characteristics—in terms of both scale and complexity—resulted in a total of 4,000 hours of printing, producing a total of 300 parts.
After the event, the artwork, named “3D Lisboa,” was moved to the “Rio Maravilha” bar at the top of LX Factory, where it was renamed “Maravilha.” Due to its 5-meter height, unique design, and size, the artwork has been the subject of promotional videos and has appeared regularly in the press and on social media.
This project was made possible by the combined efforts of three teams at 3D Factory: one team worked in shifts to provide ongoing machine maintenance, while another coordinated the post-production of parts, and a third handled the logistics for the many kilograms of specialized filament purchased for the project.
Today, after more than three years, we have “Maravilha,” a symbol of the city, standing atop the LX Factory as a testament to the strength and durability of PLA as a material.
A project by the artist Leonel Moura.
